Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Himal Installation for Windows

(1) After installing the Himalayan Database, I get the error message “Cannot locate the Microsoft Visual FoxPro support library” when I try to run the Himal program.

The most likely cause of this message is that during the installation of the Himalayan Database, you did not copy the VFP9R.DLL and VFP9RENU.DLL files that comprise the Microsoft Visual FoxPro Support Library into the Himalayan Database folder. If your Himalayan Database folder still contains the older versions VFP6R.DLL and VFP6RENU.DLL, they need to be upgraded to VFP9R.DLL and VFP9RENU.DLL.

(2) MSVCR71.DLL file is missing or cannot be found.

There have been a few cases where an error message occurs stating that the MSVCR71.DLL file is missing or cannot be found when launching the Himalayan Database.

MSVCR71.DLL is the Microsoft Visual C Runtime 7.1 library that supports programs written in C++ and is usually installed as needed by applications such as Microsoft Office. This library was a part of earlier Windows OS systems such as Windows XP. Newer versions of Windows no longer automatically include this library.

An updated version of the Himalayan Database.zip file now includes MSVCR71.DLL. If you are experiencing this issue, please re-download the Himalayan Database.zip file and reinstall the database.
